2015 holiday gift guide

Vtech Kidizoom Smartwatch

Smart gadgets are getting smaller and smaller, maybe that’s why kids are wanting to have their own. We must admit that they’re becoming savvier than us when it comes to handling these electronic things, and it’s no surprise that even kids who are barely a year old are tech-savvy too! Right now, you might find yourself negotiating with your little ones on when they can have a share of your own smartphone or whatnot, so why not give them a kid-friendly smart gadget for themselves to play and learn? How about a Vtech Kidizoom Smartwatch DX for Christmas?

Kidizoom smartwatch DX

The Vtech Kidizoom Smartwatch DX is more than just a cute watch. Being a smartwatch that it’s called, this might be any kid’s favourite gadget to have all day. But don’t think that it’s just going to make them just sit in one corner during their gadget time, because it motivates kids to be on the move too! Amazing, right? It’s packed with so many features that you wouldn’t imagine fitting into something so small. We have the blue design and we’re loving it! Let me tell you why it’s the smartest watch for kids, or little adults, rather.

Vtech Smartwatch

Since it’s a watch in the first place, the features that make it a good smartwatch are those that tell and display time in different ways. Kids can customize their own Kidizoom smartwatch with over 50 fun clock display designs to choose from, which can be digital or analog view. The Time Master feature is another clock feature that I find very helpful because the cute owl tells the time in both digital and analog when it’s tapped, so the kid hears it and learns how to read the clock! And of course, to complete the time-related features, these utilities are present: alarm clock with selection of tones and animations, stopwatch, countdown timer, and calendar, that also improve kids’ understanding about time. There’s a simple calculator too.

But what makes the Kidizoom an even better smartwatch is the addition of features that I least expected: a photo and video camera, and voice recorder! Kids can take photos, videos, and even record sounds and their voices. They can also get more creative with the sights and sounds they capture, by using built-in photo effects, frames, filters, video effects, and sound effects! That’s apart from the playback, rewind and fast-forward. Can you believe there’s all that in a watch?

I thought that was enough, but my kids’ favourite features make Kidizoom the best smartwatch out there: fun games! The Kidizoom has 5 different built-in games that practice the kids’ skills in sorting (Music Town), strategic thinking (Tic-Tac-Toe), game speed (Jumping Egg), and obstacle courses (Super Snowboard, Super Boarder). The Discoveries feature also has 3 more personalize-able games that made my kids laugh at themselves: Monster Identity which tells what monster you are, Funny Face Detector which masks your face on screen, and Sound Shaker which makes funny sounds when you move.

And here are my personal favourite features which make Kidizoom my most recommended smart gadget for kids: Action Challenge and Pedometer! I love that Kidizoom promotes physical health and fitness in a fun way. The Action Challenge has 3 activities that encourages physical play by oneself or even with their playmates: Racing Run with timer, Crazy Dance with a selection of songs, and Funky Jump! It’s enticing to play these activities because there’s a selectable character moving along on the smartwatch screen, to keep kids motivated! The Pedometer is awesome too, and especially useful for setting a target number of steps for kids to stay active despite their gadget frenzy.

And I thought it’s more than enough, but Kidizoom has a lot more in store. Kids can download even more games and clock face designs from the Learning Lodge. That being said, this smartwatch has high memory that’s huge enough to store lots of photos, videos, and games! It’s great for all-day wearing too, because it’s rechargeable, and even splash- and sweat-proof. It’s available in various colour-themed designs: blue, red flame, pink, vivid violet, and camouflage. The Vtech Kidizoom Smartwatch DX is recommended for kids aged 4 and up.
