Spring Cleaning Tips for Clek Oobr Booster/Car Seat

Who’s looking forward to spring cleaning? I am!

It has been a thrill every year for spring cleaning time as my daughter grows bigger. She’s becoming such a thoughtful big sister to my baby boy, and is also getting very eager in helping me do any household task that she sees me doing. I’m really so proud of her because she’s doing all these without expecting any reward (as much as I want to give her a treat!). But apparently, her industriousness and responsible behavior is what’s rewarding for her, and for me too. So we’re one big happy mother-and-daughter tandem for spring cleaning. Why not? But of course, she gets to do the tasks that are easier to do for kids.

My daughter’s Clek Oobr booster is one of those things that my child and I can easily clean together. Firstly, it’s because its seating is made of Crypton Super Fabrics which is highly resistant to moisture, and to other bacteria-nasty mess such as stains, odors, and mildew. And also, the cleaning materials that we prefer to use are safe and non-toxic. Granted with these two factors, Clek shares the following easy steps on how to safely clean your car seat:

• Prepare a soap mixture of 2 cups warm water and 1 teaspoon of enzyme laundry detergent (natural, non-chemical brands such as Tide Free or Nature Clean).

• Remove the excess stain of the car seat with vacuum, or by lightly brushing with a soft brush.

• Apply the soap mixture on the stained area, and brush well with a soft brush.

• Allow soap mixture to remain on the spotted area for about 1 minute.

• Blot with dry towel to remove excess soap.

• Rinse remaining soap with damp towel and/or water spray bottle.

• Repeat as necessary.

I suggest adding a teaspoon of baking soda too, as it is known to absorb odors and other bacteria. It would be great for any horrible dirt or stain on your car seat.

For any Clek car seat, there is no need to disassemble the seat itself. The straps and other detachable objects should also not be machine-washed, as it may deteriorate their quality. Wiping them with damp cloth will already do just fine. I use my baby wipes for them.

For children’s safety, Clek strictly advises against using toxic, chemical-laden cleaning materials. For an easy do-it-yourself project, here is a home-made, organic refresher spray for your car seat:

• In a spray bottle, dilute vinegar in water at 1:1 ratio.

• Add at least a half teaspoon of essential oil of your choice

• Add a half teaspoon of vegetable glycerin (for the emulsification of essential oils)

• Enjoy spraying!

When using this spray, remember to move the harness straps of your car seat to avoid spraying on them.

Who says DIY spring cleaning like this is not fun? Your curious kids can help you with the soap solution or refresher spray preparations and mixing, as if they are lab scientists! Just remember to keep a close eye on them at all times.

Happy spring cleaning!
