Scholastic Springtime Picture Books Review

When I first opened the package of Scholastic springtime picture books, I was immediately allured by the glowing and colorful illustrations on the covers of the books. I couldn’t wait to read them together with my daughter – they just seem so fun and delightful that I immediately took one out, sat my little girl on my lap and began to read along with her.

Like most 4 year olds, it is hard to get my daughter’s attention for more than a few minutes. But when I showed her the books, her eyes widened with interest. From the moment we sat down together to the end of each book, she was engrossed in the beautiful illustrations and charming stories of each one.

Here are the books that are included in the collection:

1. Exclamation Mark

The first book in the collection that I read with my daughter was exclamation mark. The illustrations in the book were the simplest amongst the four books in the Scholastic Springtime Picture Books collection. Although simple, it’s minimalism made it all the more charming and whimsical. I loved how the book used a non-traditional hero in a new and fantastic way. I personally found the book an excellent learning experience for my child, who learned about the excitement of being unique and proper punctuation.

2. The Highway Rat

The next book was an absolute delight. My daughter and I both fell in love with the story. It is about a rat that can’t keep his hands off of other people’s food. He steals every snack he can get his hands on! From a rabbit’s clover to a squirrel’s nut and even his own horse’s hay. While the highway rat gets fatter, the other animals have gone thinner. The story peaks when the highway rat meets a duck. The problem is there’s nothing to steal from the duck, so the highway rat decides to eat the duck. Can the duck outsmart the hungry Highway Rat?

3. Polar Bear Morning

Polar Bear Morning is a feel good piece that made my daughter smile. I loved how the glowing illustrations that seems to jump off the page. The adorable story of friendship and warmth also warmed my heart.

4. The Magnificent Tree

Now this story brought me back to a time when I was young with its enchanting tale and beautiful illustrations. My daughter loved this one a lot and I did too. The interplay between Bonney and Pop and their ingenuity was whimsical and fun at the same time. The story is about Pop’s brave and bold ideas combined with Bonney’s clever but simple plans. They want to build a clever, genius tree to make the birds stay. Of all the books, The Magnificent Tree is the book that I would recommend for all ages.

While I am tempted to give away the endings of these wonderful books, you’ll have to read them for yourself. These books are a must-buy and a must-read. On the whole, the Scholastic Springtime Picture Books are absolutely wonderful. I highly recommend them to parents of young children, and I feel that they will have as much fun as my daughter and I did.

  1. where do you find these? Scholastic doesn’t exactly have the most searchable website and even searching “Scholastic Springtime Picture Books” results in nothing.
