Hookitty-Tookitty-Tah Children’s Book Review

A love for reading is a trait we, mommies, would want to develop in our children. Developing this trait does not happen overnight. In fact, it may start from conception where your child becomes familiar with your voice. Thus, it makes perfect sense that reading aloud to your children bedtime stories is a valuable way to spend time together. Remember that reading does not have any age requirement. No one is ever too young or too old to start reading. Some parents even start during pregnancy!

I have been reading bedtime stories to my children since I can remember. Aside from the fact that reading bedtime stories have many positive benefits, I always looked forward to the cuddles and goodnight kisses I receive in exchange for trying to sound like a witch and a fairy at the same time. My little girl has this favorite book which she loves to hear again and again ad I have read it to hear a hundred times over and over but she always seemed to enjoy the story. The title of the book is Hookitty-Tookitty-Tah by Antonio mugica.

Hookitty-Tookitty-Tah

Hookitty-Tookitty-Tah is a story of a king who makes a treaty with a dragon not to eat the townsfolk if they can provide him mountains of sweets. Unfortunately, an accidental substitution of ingredients in one of the recipes turned the dragon from yellow to purple, enraging the beast who threatened to eat the children of the town if they do not restore his original color. Frightened, the townsfolk turned to Hookitty-Tookitty-Tah for help. Hookitty-Tookitty-Tah is a famous wizard baker who bakes up numerous magical treats that changed the dragon from one color to another until finally back to his old yellow color.

The book uses rhyming verse and simple words along with fantastic pictures to weave an imaginative story that your children will surely enjoy. I find the rhyming and the versing very well-fitted for children. It is simple and I did not find myself tripping over the words at all. It is perfect for reading aloud alongside with your children.

The illustration of the book was great and very age-appropriate for children. The colors used were bright and the illustrations were sufficient to depict what was described in the story. I happen to think that the dragon was very well-illustrated. It was not depicted in a scary kind of way despite the nature of the dragon in the story.

I am recommending this book to add to your little Bedtime Stories Library. I personally think that this book is great for kids aged 3 up. Both boys and girls will enjoy the story so its a great book for the whole family. I got my copy a few months ago but there are copies sold in Amazon. The book comes hard-bound which is great because it will not get torn down or get tattered easily. I would also like to add that this book also comes in Spanish version in case you might be interested. Happy reading mommies!
