She’s no damsel in distress as she doesn’t need and want a prince charming. She wanted to change her fate against what is expected of her as a princess who had to marry a prince. She acquired exceptional skills as an archer, on top of her sword-fighting, spears and horseback riding capabilities. She always had her game face on in times of danger. She never gave up from a deadly fight. Yes, this is a princess we’re talking about! It’s Merida from the Disney Pixar Movie, Brave. 
All these strong qualities Merida has as a princess and an exemplary woman made her the newest Disney Princess in 2013, the 11th of the lineup and the first ever from Pixar. And last July, she was the featured Disney Princess. But before we go into the amazing Merida toys from Hasbro, I’m not yet done raving about her!
Aside from Merida’s admirable independence, strength and bravery, her image is something both I and my daughter adore. Who wouldn’t be mesmerized by her big, wavy, crazy red curls? I also love her wholesome look because her face is not seductive yet not too sweet, but just like any normal girl that anyone can relate to. Her green gown is also perfectly elegant for the rugged outdoors yet functional enough for her archery and horseback riding. And add to that her spunky personality and Scottish accent!
And because we can’t get enough of her beautiful curls, here are the beautiful Merida merchandise from Disney and Hasbro:
Royal Shimmer Merida Doll
This fabulous doll is abundant with her signature curly locks that girls like my daughter long to style and play with! But her curls are bigger and more manageable though, not like the really wild and countless curls she had in the Brave movie. And although her sparkly ombre gown and matching shoes aren’t how it’s exactly like in the movie, this Merida doll has a removable belt! Really princessy chic outfit yet edgy. The Merida doll’s face looks lovely with her big blue eyes, ginger eyebrows, cute freckles and pleasant smile.
Little Kingdom Merida’s Playful Adventures
Merida’s adventures would be so much more exciting with a companion! Merida’s Little Kingdom includes her cute Bear Brother who can also perform tricks like balancing treats. Merida also has plenty of snap-ins for her outfit and hair, and of course her bow and arrow is a must for her to have. I especially love the cast detail of her voluminous hair.
Merida’s Magical Story Skirt
This one is doll play and art combined! Just like the Royal Sparkle Merida Doll, Merida’s Magical Story Skirt comes as a beautiful Merida doll with the same beautiful face and hair, but with a magic skirt. The skirt has a blank portion that when you paint with the included water wand, a colorful picture is revealed! It shows Merida riding her horse Angus while aiming with the signature bow and arrow.
My daughter and I really enjoyed Merida because she greatly stands out in among all the other Disney Princesses. It’s not just her distinctive looks that left a great impression, but her bravery, independence, and her mastery of her skills as well. She’s just the fourth princess we encountered and we can’t wait to experience the rest of them!
