Qixels Fuse Blaster #HolidayGiftGuide

2015 holiday gift guide

qixels logoPixelated photos are no fun when they’re supposed to be high quality, but pixel art is! Do you remember those good old days of 8-bit gaming? Well, it’s back in style, this time in real physical form! And how about playing with water gun to make art? Yes you can!

So what do you get when you combine pixel art, 8-bit play, and water gun? Qixels Fuse Blaster! I know it sounds like it’s a fun toy for us Gen X and Y kids because it brings us childhood nostalgia, but this cool action-punched craft toy is especially for our little kids to enjoy. Imagine how cool it is for parents and kids to share a common love for pixel play!

The Qixels Fuse Blaster is a pixel art toy set that kids can create and play with in three fun steps: Make, Spray, Play.

Make: The set includes 500 cubes of various colours. There are 4 design templates which serve as the patterns for doing the “beadwork” with the cubes. These colour-guided designs are of a monster creature, a robot, a warrior, and a hammerhead shark. The design template needs to be placed on top of the design tray (2 provided), where the cubes are to be pressed on, to hold the cubes together. My kids enjoyed matching the cubes to the design according to colour, and it kind of reminded me of cross-stitching which I used to enjoy when I was just a craft-loving young girl. But hey, you can make your own design too, like letters, shapes, and any random pattern that comes to mind.

Spray: Spraying the finished cube work with the Fuse Blaster is the next fun part! Fill it with water first, and blast away with about 25 sprays all over to wet the whole cube design. Excess water may be reduced to lessen drying time, by tilting the design tray and gently shaking off excess water. To dry, lay the tray flat for at least 30 minutes. It’s just like waiting for a fresh painting to dry. Isn’t it amazing how these cubes only need water to meld together? No sticky or hot glue, no stitching, no mess at all! We all took turns in blasting with the Fuse Blaster because it’s just so cool!

Play: The cube work is ready to remove if it’s completely dry to the touch! Simply peel off from the design tray gently, and make use of it with more included fun stuff. There are 2 display stands, 2 display bases, and 2 cool plug-in accessories: a raygun and an axe. There’s a bag tag and thread too. These cute pixel toys are just irresistible for play and display.

Qixels is carried by Imports Dragon, and also has the following Qixels products for more pixel fun: Turbo Dryer, Design Creator, and Theme Pack refill for more cubes and designs. Recommended for kids aged 4 and up, Qixels is not just a great holiday gift for the child, but for the playful and craftsy parents who are also kids at heart.
