K’NEX TinkerToy 150 Piece Essentials Value Set {#Review & #Giveaway} #HolidayGiftGuide

2015 holiday gift guide

Sometimes, my almost 3-year old son is too lazy to hold a crayon or feed himself with a spoon, so the opportunity to refine his fine motor skills is missed. Large building blocks sometimes do the trick, but it only exercises his fingers with downward, pushing movements. I also want his fingers to move in many ways, something close to like putting a needle into a thread but safely. I want his fingers to strengthen too, in a way that he can click and unlock basic interlocking toys. With this, he will surely improve in his scribbling, colouring, and handwriting. In short, I just need to effectively motivate his fancy to tinker. knex tinkertoy

So this Christmas, I figured the best holiday gift for rapidly developing toddlers and preschoolers should be something that will make them enjoy working their hands and fingers, while at the same time boost their raw creativity and free imagination: the K’NEX Tinkertoy 150 Piece Essentials Value Set! Tinkertoy, a National Toy Hall of Famer in the US and the classic construction toy loved by many generations for more than 100 years, has been redesigned to snap together and stay together for a more enjoyable and long-lasting play by this generation’s post-millennial kids.

The 150-pc Tinkertoy set contains a satisfying variety of parts that leave little ones an endless array of ideas to create with. The illustrated instructions suggest 16 creations to make with the colourful Tinkertoy pieces like a kite, flower, butterfly, sun, dog, seesaw, and even a windmill, a house, and several towers. But for sure, imaginative and playful toddlers can create more than that. Aside from the classic spools and rods which are bendable, there are end caps, flags, washers, and a lot more interlocking bits and pieces that teach the basic concepts on ‘simple machines’. Remember the pulley, wheel and axle, inclined plane, lever, screw and wedge? Kids can tinker and create from these things that can also move and function!

My son is very much enjoying what he thinks is ‘free play’ with the Tinkertoy, but for me he is now my little designer, architect, engineer, and inventor. He’s been building random things that he’s so proud of ‘inventing’, which of course all look beautiful to me. So far it’s serving my purpose of enhancing his fine motor skills, and I’m so happy to see him appreciate how each part locks with another. I also applaud the updated version of this classic toy because it keeps up with the future of today’s children on STEM education.

The K’NEX Tinkertoy 150 Piece Essentials Value Set is recommended for kids aged 3 and up. It’s a great holiday gift for any kid who loves either art, science, or both! And if there’s one Christmas wish that I could have for every family with a toddler, it’s for them to have a Tinkertoy at home! Imagine what this timeless classic could do to bridge any generation gap among kids, parents and grandparents. It’s definitely going to be a geeky but endearing bonding activity!
