Zylie the Bear: a Cuddly Doll Review And Giveaway

Chances are, if you have a daughter, you have dolls and stuffed animals galore. My daughter loves the idea of dolls and dress up but craves the warmth and comfort of stuffed animals. We really thought that the only solution for her playtime desires was to provide both stuffed animals and dolls and let her choose at whim.

Then along came Zylie.

Zylie the bear solves the stuffed animal doll dilemma. Zylie is a plush 18-inch bear who is very much like her 18-inch doll counterparts. Like a doll, Zylie is posable and can be dressed up in fashionable clothing; like a stuffed toy, Zylie is cute and cuddly and can be loved on indefinitely. Zylie also comes with her own storybook that tells the tale of her first adventure in New York City.

I wasn’t too sure how my daughter, Catherine, would take to Zylie. She received a “big-girl doll” for Christmas and, while she liked it, didn’t pay it too much attention. I was blown away by how different Catherine’s reaction was to Zylie.

Catherine was immediately drawn to Zylie as a teddy bear and as a doll. She knew that Zylie was special because she could hug this toy (no plastic limbs or long hair to get in the way!) and still be able to have imaginative play with her.

I must confess, as a mom, I was immediately drawn to Zylie, too. This bear as a stuffed animal has one of the cutest teddy bear faces I’ve seen. Because she is a bear, there are no worries about getting a doll to look just like your child and there is no implied beauty that your child needs to aspire toward–Zylie can be that sweet, unassuming and comforting toy that your daughter has been looking for!

Functioning as a doll, Zylie has the best wardrobe hands down–I am not kidding when I say that I wouldn’t mind borrowing Zylie’s outfits! They’re fashionable, hip, and very well made. The fine workmanship that goes into Zylie’s clothes is apparent through their many details. While there are currently only three additional outfits available for purchase, I am positive more will be made soon. Not to worry, however! Zylie is a standard 18-inch size so most 18-inch doll clothes will fit her, too–I found that fact very appealing!

Zylie the Bear kit comes with Zylie, a book about her adventures, and an orange tote bag filled with a passport, map, and diary. Catherine loved opening up Zylie’s “purse” and exploring its contents–she especially loved the passport (“look, Zylie! it has your picture!”).

My daughter is just on the cusp of the recommended age for Zylie the Bear–3 and up. Despite being on the younger side of the age-range spectrum, Catherine was able to undress and redress Zylie with ease. All of Zylie’s accessories continue to occupy Catherine–she takes Zylie’s “purse” with her everywhere and loves to look inside the contents of the tote.

I really could laud the great qualities of Zylie the Bear for a long time but I’ll let Zylie’s current list of awards speak for themselves–talk about impressive!
