2013 Holiday Gift Guide

Baby products really get put through the ringer. I’ve seen things thrown from the table, run over, sat on, bitten, and smeared with every substance imaginable. So it’s refreshing and encouraging to find a product that can withstand even the toughest kid disasters. I love Wean Green Garden Pack Wean Cubes because they are durable and strong and can be used for all my kids.

I knew I wanted to make my baby’s food as soon as he started with solids. I love being able to know exactly what is going in his body and having control to make it the best product possible. So why would I put my carefully made food in a container that could contain harmful chemicals and toxins? Wean Cubes are chemical free and made of quality tempered, 100% recycled glass. That way my baby’s food can stay fresh. Plus, the containers are freezer, microwave, and dishwasher safe so I can make a big batch of pumpkin squash puree, then freeze it and thaw just what I need and take it straight to the table. I love the simplicity of it, and especially not having to clean so many dirty dishes. Each container holds four ounces, which is the perfect serving size for baby food and toddler snacks.

All this is great, but let’s talk about how durable the Wean Cubes are, because that is one of my favorite parts. As my baby gets older, he loves holding on to them and eating his snacks straight from the container. The glass is 4-5 times stronger than a drinking glass and hard to break, even when my son throws them with all his might. And forget about sticky baby food leaking all over your purse or diaper bag. Unlike most other food containers, Wean Cubes are made with leak proof silicon seals that really hold their own. The tabs are even tested with 3-million opens to make sure they really are the best. And I don’t know how they do it, but the lids stay closed when they need to and are easy to open when you want them to be. Even little toddler hands can open the lids to get their own snacks out. It’s the little things that save your mom sanity, right?

The four-pack of Wean Cubes with colorful lids retails for around $23 and are well worth their price. The durability means that I can use them for lots of things for a long time.

Looking for something to put in your sparkling new Wean Cubes? Here is my favorite recipe for apple pumpkin puree, perfect for a baby to eat out of the best food container out there:

  • 1 sugar pumpkin
  • 3 apples, peeled and cored (we like Gala or Granny Smith)
  • Water
  • Cinnamon, nutmeg (optional—sprinkle to taste into the puree)

1. Halve the pumpkin, peel, and de-seed it. Cut into cubes

2. Slice apples

3. Add 3 inches water to a pot. Put pumpkin cubes and apple slices into steamer basket in pot

4. Bring water to a boil and then steam gently until soft and cooked.

5. Let cool then puree or mash into a good consistency for your baby.
