Facing a threat of Cancer in the family is not only a life-threatening ordeal, but also a huge challenge – enough that the families should not have to deal with other complications such as transport. However, too many Canadian families that is an added worry, they also have to deal with in conjunction with the initial shock of diagnosis. As a result, Sunbeam® started the initiative Support with Warmth to help lessen the worries of those afflicted by Cancer.

It is an awareness and fundraising program they launched to help the Canadian Cancer Society’s patient transportation programs, such as Wheels of Hope in Ontario. Many Canadians rely on these programs to transport their loved ones to the necessary treatment centre. The main inspiration and core of the campaign is the true story of a single mother, Kelly Tugnett.

At only six months old, when mother’s still relish in the joy of seeing their little baby grow, Kelly had to deal with the fact that her little boy Jaxson was diagnosed with a rare form of Cancer – Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma. If that was not enough to deal with, she also had to figure out how to reach the treatment for her son as she did not have the means to transport him. If it was not for volunteer drivers like Florence Devitt that gave her secure transport and support through the journey her life would surely have come tumbling down. You can have a look at this heart-warming story yourself.

Sunbeam® is helping others like Kelly by donating 75,000 kilometres to the Wheels of Hope transportation program. If that is not already enough, they also recognise that feeling cold or chilled easily is another reality that Cancer patients have to face due to the disease and treatment, therefore they are giving some warmth where it is needed by donating 500 Sunbeam® Heated Throws. You can also share in the warmth by having a look at their website and donating some of your time or by spreading the word.
