The Science of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! at Ontario Science Centre #WeirdScienceTO & Tickets Giveaway

Last week my kids and I had a blast with the exclusive preview of The Science of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! at Ontario Science Centre. Unlike the other Ripley exhibits I’ve been to before when I was younger, this one is more fun because it’s interactive and encourages you to literally get your hands on the installations to feed your curiosity and really learn about the science behind those unbelievable things. It was not just about reading the descriptions of every installation. You have to experience it yourself to believe it!

To kick off this mind-boggling preview, the Monsters of Schlock performed live with their unbelievable tricks. Who else could put a mousetrap on their tongues or lift weights that are hooked into their eyelids? Such stunts of freakish nature maybe, but did you know that half of this duo was actually a science major? The Monsters of Schlock are indeed experts and professionals in their craft, and while my kids are in awe, I admire them for demonstrating the unbelievable strengths of the human body.

The Monsters of Schlock

Our brains had a lot of exercise on the different experiments, games, challenges and other spectacles that actually had scientific explanations no matter how weird and mysterious they seem. We sure felt so small when we tunneled through the world’s largest snake and when we stood next to the world’s tallest man even when he was sitting! I was so impressed with the various artistic installations like the T-rex made of scrap metal, a camel made of toys, a huge car made of a million matchsticks, Albert Einstein’s portrait made of toast, Benjamin Franklin’s portrait made of keyboard keys, oh wow, and a lot more to feast our eyes on! But the kids’ favourites were the optical illusion tricks that made them really wonder and laugh.

Another part of the exhibit that made me think of our future is the Bug Bistro by Entomo Farms, which serves bugs! And the science behind it is that these bugs are many times higher in protein and other nutrients than the meats and poultry we normally eat. Anyone for roasted seasoned crickets and mealworms? I have to admit, we tried some and they were really tasty. There were even colourful bug pops for kids! The “future of food” indeed. If it’s all towards healthier eating, then I’m all for it!

The Science of Ripley’s Believe It or Not runs daily until September 5, and it would be great for kids to learn about weird science before they start a new school year. Even adults will love it too!

Aside from the Ripley exhibit, I would also like to recommend KidSpark in Ontario Science Centre. There my kids got to experience real-life adult activities through play. They got to build a big house and a roller coaster, buy stuff from the pretend market and cooked them in a pretend house, performed in a music studio, experimented with simple machines in the water, and lots more. This wonderful place is for kids aged 8 and below, just perfect for my 7-year old and 3-year old. So come on down and visit Ontario Science Centre to treat your whole family!

  1. I enjoy taking my toddler to the Science Centre. There is so much to do and see, and it is fun for her as well, even though she is learning.

  7. So, focus, decision-making and the stimulation of creativity have just helped you encounter pure
joy. No doubt, the colorful-sheets and sheets are true way
of amusement and entertainment for that kiddos, with no
bigger cost and without a hassle for colorful books.
With everything else changing so fast, I believe it really is valuable to retain the main things
essentially because they have “always” been.
