Recently I received Sophie doll and Buddy the dog set from Neat-oh to review. Sophie is a small doll, just a few inches tall and Buddy the dog just about an inch high.

These dolls are probably for young girls ages 3-6. Sophie is wearing modest clothing, which is appropriate to the age group, but she does have some chest, which implies she is perhaps a teenager. Her face is not overly made up like some dolls. The doll is a bit top heavy and the feet are not very big, so she tips over instead of standing on her own.

Sophie’s accessories are a change of clothing, a shovel and fork to garden with, and a bean bag chair. Sophie’s box came with a background of her bedroom, which is cute, but it doesn’t match the theme of gardening.

Buddy and Dottie dogs can stand on their own. The dog comes with a dish, bone, and leash for the dolls to walk him. My friend was confused why a boy dog would have purple ears! I said boys can wear purple too.

The idea of an “everyday princess” could be empowering to girls, showing that you don’t need fantasy to be special, everyday things can be special and fun. I appreciated that Sophie came with gardening tools. The leash that came with the dog is unique. My nieces always want to come and help walk the dogs, and lots of kids use ropes to tie to their stuffed dogs. Therefore the toys could hopefully encourage kids to help walk their dogs or help with gardening!

The other girls are doing activities that are sure to be popular with little girls: Julia comes with an art easel and smock, Bianca comes with an outdoor activity set, Sophie has a garden set. Emma is more adventurous with a scuba set. All the dolls have bean bags, although the dolls don’t stay on them.

Haley comes with a hairbrush, but the other dolls don’t. They all have long hair which a lot of little girls love. They come with an additional outfit, which fastens with Velcro. For a doll that size, it’s impressive to have clothes that come on and off. Their shoes are removable, but very tiny. I’m disappointed the dog didn’t have a coat!

You can also get a dollhouse that is a backpack, which is very convenient for travel and also a good place to store all the toys to keep things organized.
