MAM Pacifier and Anti-Colic Bottle {#Review And #Giveaway}

Weighing in at 7.5 lbs, my son was considered perfectly average at birth, though being tall and slim, he has the most adorable petite features – except for his gorgeous chubby little cheeks! Other than being simultaneously too tall and too small for most baby clothes, his unique size hasn’t been a cause for concern. That is, until we realized that all of the various newborn pacifiers we had purchased were far too big for his tiny little mouth!

We tried every pacifier brand we could get our hands on – some were just far too big, some were the wrong shaped nipple. Those with a nipple he liked had a massive shield that covered his whole tiny nose and cheeks or were too heavy for him to keep in. Those with a decently shaped shield had a massive bulbous nipple! He really loves to comfort suck, and so we were keen on finding something that he would like for his comfort and ours – our hour long ttc trips to the doctor demand some soothing!

MAM Pacifiers

When I discovered at last the MAM brand of newborn pacifiers, we finally found a pacifier that was perfect for my son! MAM has worked together with Orthodontists & Paediatric Dentists to design a selection of pacifiers in a variety of shapes and sizes to suit any baby’s needs! Their pacifiers are BPA-free, phthalate-free, lead-free, PVC-free and are CPSIA Compliant. They are clinically proven to place less pressure on baby’s jaw and teeth due to the thinner and softer nipple neck, which reduces the risk of malocclusions.

We were excited to test out two of their newborn pacifiers: the MAM Start Newborn and the MAM Perfect.

Start Pacifier

The MAM Start Newborn pacifiers (sold in pairs) are made of natural latex and boast an innovative curved shield with generous air holes and MAM’s patented inside surface. For my little guy, this meant that he could actually breathe while comfort sucking!!! Also, they are button shaped with no clunky handle. This makes them much lighter weight and less bulky, so they stay put for much longer. I have never understood why some companies manufacture soothers with handles on them for babies who are still too young to muster up the coordination to use said handles!

Pacifier Nipples

The nipple itself was also quite soft, and according to the packaging the orthodontic MAM nipple is ideal for baby’s jaw and teeth development as it individually adapts to baby’s mouth, thereby ensuring that MAM pacifiers are always in the right position.

Perfect Pacifier

The MAM Perfect is a larger silicone pacifier and is sold individually. It is clinically proven to be 60% thinner and three times softer than regular silicone pacifiers. With its still lightweight and non-bulky shape, the MAM Perfect can be used by newborns all the way up to six months.

Both pacifiers come complete with the unique MAM self-sterilizing box: “The MAM Perfect box is an ideal sterilizer and carry box. Just add water, insert pacifier and microwave!”

It really is that simple to use, and it is so much nicer than boiling in a pot of water on the stove! Plus, it makes using it while out and about much more practical, as most places we go to we have access to a microwave and water.

What I also love about MAM pacifiers are their lovely look – with a wide variety of colourful but elegant patterns and designs. They even offer seasonal pacifiers and currently have the cutest Halloween collection available: http://www.shopmambaby.com/pacifiers/halloween-6-months-pacifier

Again, these pacifiers have a curved shield and symmetrical soft silicone nipple, with air flow openings on the shield. I only wish that they were available in newborn sizing, because how cute would that be for the holidays?

My little darling is also a champion eater, having perfected his latch the very first try, and loves our many frequent nursing sessions for both nutrition and comfort. While I love these bonding times dearly, a mom has got to get some sleep occasionally, and our now mere 45 minute sleep sessions throughout the night (which translate into roughly 30 minutes for me) simply aren’t enough!

Fortunately, I have an amazing husband who has been supporting me all the way in every capacity and while he can’t help me out with breastfeeding, he can take over some shifts using my pumped milk and a bottle – or so we thought!

As it turns out, my son also has an immature digestive system, so giving him a bottle – even of my own breastmilk, causes him to experience painful gas and other colic symptoms. We have been working together with our GP and a lactation consultant, and have mostly gotten things under control, but have been on the lookout for a good bottle that will reduce his gas as much as possible and I have to say that MAM has once again developed a product that meets my every need!

Bottle

Their innovative MAM Anti-Colic Bottles come in 160 ml and 260 ml sizes and are scientifically proven reduce colic by 80%* They do this with a unique ventilation system in the base of the bottle, which also is designed to be used as a wonderfully easy to use self-sterilisation feature that takes just three minutes in the microwave. This ventilation system, together with an ultra-soft silicone nipple, provides a smooth milk flow by reducing air swallowed by baby and reduces gas and burps.

The bottles are well designed in terms of their shape and feel as well, with a soft texture and gentle bulbous shaping to make feeding sessions comfortable for both my son and my husband now!
