We Love Scholastic’s Picture Books!

I have heard stories about how kids are impatient and their attention span is very short, but you will never really understand the true meaning of it until you are in the situation, as a mom, I definitely agree. Kids will not stay in one place longer as you want them to be. Children are so active and busy. They are always curious about anything they see. Concentration is hard to expect from them. So, mothers need to have a good source of destruction to capture their attention.

Currently I found that my 2 year old was really into the picture books. He always grabs one from the bookshelf and asks me to read to him. The picture books are very easy to read and understand. It can be told in both words and pictures. With a good story, I can read it to my kids aloud and I think they are meant to be read in that way. So the story and the words will go straight into their hearts and never be forgotten.

Recently, there are three children’s picture books released that my kids like a lot.

  • The Duck Says, written by Troy Wilson
  • Pig the Pug by Aaron Blabey
  • Please, Mr. Panda by Steve Antony

The first two books “The Duck Says” and “Pig the Pug”, tell about the adventure of two rambunctious characters of a duck and a dog.

“The Duck Says” is a story of a very active and playful duck in a farm. He does many sort of playful acts that will make you laugh a lot. He does silly and humorous jokes around that sometimes turns into a disaster. This has a simple storyline but the pattern of the story is like a typical kid’s behavior. They thought they are being funny only, without thinking of the consequences of their actions. The illustrations give you an idea about the story itself. This is a very good book to teach our children on how to behave and be good.

“Pig the Pug” on the other hand, is like a Grinch, someone who is greedy, killjoy, and a spoilsport. At the start of the story, he doesn’t know how to share and have fun with others. Pig is an unsociable and distant dog. Most kids are possessive of their toys and property. They might not have an attitude like “Pig the Pug” but they can relate to him in being a possessive child. Like any other children’s book at the end, there is always a good life lesson to learn from this book regardless of how old your kids are.

The story of “Please, Mr. Panda”, is the total opposite of the first two story. Mr. Panda is about a pleasant and kind panda who teaches other animals how to be patient, respectful and well-mannered individual. He wants the other animals learn how to say the correct words when asking for something. The word “please” and “thank you” is hard to expect from the children. This is another nice story with very good illustration that will surely capture children’s attention. My children love the book.

All the three books are funny, heartwarming and good source of life lesson techniques that we can use to educate our children at the same time having fun with reading them.

Being mom is really one of the toughest professions, having these kinds of books to aid you in your journey growing with the kids and teaching them good behavior is really a great thing. I highly recommend these books. Have fun reading with your kids.
