2015 holiday gift guide

Back when my kids were little, I used to tell myself, “Aren’t my kids too young for LEGOs?” and in just a snap, they grew up faster than I expected. I learned that it won’t take long before kids could start having the itch to build with constructive toys, so now I’m just all for it when my kids’ eyes beam with excitement over new LEGO sets to assemble and review! And the LEGO Juniors Easy to Build Spider-Man Hideout is just the perfect holiday gift for little boys who are budding superhero builders.

The LEGO Juniors Spiderman Hideout features a cool hideout of Spiderman by a busy street. You think you’re just building a little pedestrian street scene with perhaps a red bus stop or waiting station, but watch out because you’ll never know when Spiderman slides through that spiderweb-covered wall! But more than just a hideout, kids are surely even more thrilled to build Spiderman’s helicopter with propelling rotor blades (or bricks, rather), transparent opening cockpit window, and spiderweb trunk so that Spiderman can ride, fly around, and jump out! And of course there’s the Spiderman minifigure, complete with his signature accessories: spiderweb and string!

But that’s not all there is to Spiderman’s hideout. He’s not alone! There’s Green Goblin for Spiderman to do action-filled combat scenes with, and a police officer minifigure for backup. But watch out, because Green Goblin’s pumpkin shooter can aim and shoot, and his air glider is game for the running and flying chase! At times when Spiderman is too quick to be targeted easily, there are street scene accessories like the traffic light post and newspaper stacks to ‘accidentally’ shoot at (because Green Goblin missed his target, Spiderman!). Good thing, Mr. Police Officer also has his own speedy police motorbike on standby for zooming action. lego policeLego Spiderman

That’s a total of three minifigures, three action-packed vehicles, plus functional accessories, and a really cool Spiderman hideout! It’s a total of 137 pieces exactly, but it is what its name says: Easy to Build. The colorful building instructions manual is well-illustrated for little kids to easily follow, as they get to build by visual learning. My 7-year old daughter found it very easy to build despite the many pieces, and she even coached her 2.5-year old brother successfully in assembling the easiest pieces.

And what have we got here? An enriching build-and-play activity to build the kids’ confidence in starting and finishing creations by themselves, and to spark their imagination with the stories they make out of the toy structures they built.

Ideal for kids aged 4-7, the LEGO Juniors playsets use ‘quick start elements’ that are easy to handle for small hands, making the assembly intuitively predictable and fun for little ones who are developing their fine motor skills. LEGO Juniors is a very encouraging starter for kids who need a balance of challenge and ease, and a good transitional set for those graduating from LEGO Duplo or basic classic sets. It is also worth mentioning that LEGO Juniors won Preschool Toy of the Year at the 2015 Toy of the Year Awards. How’s that for an award-winning holiday gift?
