Hamilton Beach Ice Shaver And Strawberry Slush #Recipe

Ah…the hot, wonderfully long days of summer!  There’s nothing better than a hot day, a good book on the patio and a cold drink!  And what better way to have a cold drink or treat than to make your own slushie or snow cone!

The Hamilton Beach Ice Shaver is perfect for a cool treat for the entire family.  We received our Hamilton Beach Ice Shaver as a gift and my girls (Peanut – 8, Pofaroo – 4) have been asking to try it out for awhile.

With hot weather and (frozen) delicious strawberries we picked at Strawberry Creek Farm, our first recipe would be straight from the recipes included with this appliance.  So simple and oh so delicious!!  All we needed were a few ingredients: water, strawberry syrup, frozen strawberries and ice.  With so few ingredients, making slushies was a breeze.

After adding the water and the syrup to the included mixing bowl we were ready to make the icy part of our drink.

Strawberries were up next and the Hamilton Beach Ice Shaver made quick work of them.

After adding the ice and under 10 minutes processing from assembly to slushie, we were enjoying our icy drink.

Some of the features I really liked about this unit:

  1. Super easy assembly! All the pieces fit together quite simply and we were ready to go in less than 2 minutes.
  2. I really like that there’s no button to turn on the unit and that the only way to activate the ice shaver is by locking in the lid.  This ensures nothing other than frozen fruit and ice cubes are near the blades during operation.  A big plus for me now that Peanut and Pofaroo are helping out more in the kitchen!
  3. Clean up was a breeze!  A quick rinse with soapy water as soon as we were finished had us quickly on our way to enjoying our icy cold treat!

Peanut really enjoyed helping and this is an appliance I would feel comfortable allowing her to use with me close by.  Clean up would be courtesy of Mom to ensure little fingers don’t get too close to the sharp blades that shave the ice.

The only thing I didn’t like about the Hamilton Beach Ice Shaver was that it is quite noisy although not any noisier than crushing ice in a blender or from our refrigerator.  It’s definitely not something I would want to run with any napping children nearby.

I can only imagine the possibilities for more adult type drinks like iced cappuccinos, margaritas and my favourite pina coladas.  I’m sure my girls would love the non-alcoholic version of pina colados with the coconut & pineapple that makes them so good!

What should we make next?
