Easter Basket Ideas for 2012: Think Outside the Basket

Easter is one of the most celebrated events of the year. Our family for one, see to it that each Easter Sunday is an event to be remembered. However, it has become monotonous as year after year, we celebrate Easter by hiding eggs to be searched by the younguns and making Easter baskets full of sweet treats. I wonder, what else is there to do this year on Easter Sunday? The traditional big-old-mess-of-candy Easter goodie exchange our relatives usually engage in is probably not the way to go this year. I would probably have to throw myself on all those high-sugar, high-calorie, high-food-coloring, high-fat candies and eat them up to save my cherished child from their ill effects. If you want to avoid candy overload for your kiddos and protective eating for yourself, there are other things you can do to celebrate Easter.

Hasbro Think Outside the Basket

Hasbro, being one of the most trusted toy providers in the world, has provided us with different treats this Easter which not only helps us avoid being too hopped up on sugar, but also aids in the enjoyment and development of our children.

Play-Doh Spring Eggs 4 Pack play-doh

One of the things they offer is the Play Doh set which enables children to play as well as develop their creativity. What is so fun about play doh? I am a mother of a four year old, and if you’re like me and have ever thought you loved play-doh, then experienced the joys of a child smearing Play Doh over the carpet, you’ll ask yourself that question as well. These Play-Doh sets however, are shaped like easter eggs and bunnies and comes with stamps on their feet with which your children can create more shapes and figures. The added bonus is that she can play the Play-Doh or pretend it was poop, and I could see my child smiling in sheer delight; what is a four-year-old’s obsession with poop anyway? Through these toys, in addition to the enjoyment they may experience, children may practice letter recognition, sight reading, and spelling. I may, finally, have new respect for Play Doh.

Another option for Easter treats that Hasbro has to offer is those cute little Mr Potato Head spud toys. I became nostalgic seeing these toys which I’ve also played with as a child. These are cute plastic models of a potato which can be decorated with plastic parts. These Mr Potato heads however, come complete with bunny ears and little slippers that are perfect for Easter. Children are very fond of decorating and dressing up toys. These spuds especially, if compared to those scary small dolls that may be dressed-up, are very endearing and cute. Plus, it comes in a very affordable price, which is perfect for bargain hunting mothers.

These are sure fire ways for your younguns to have a blast this Easter as well as develop their motor skills. As parents however, we would also benefit by having a very relaxing day because our children were busy (and tamed) playing with their play dohs and potato head toys. Come now and plan your perfect Easter treats!
