While searching the stores and the internet for great children’s gifts for this holiday season, I am finding that many great new toys are making their way front and center. I am enjoying searching out the toys as much as the children will enjoy playing with them!
The Code and Go Robot Mouse Activity Set by Learning Resources is a toy that provides hours of fun for the children, as well as age appropriate challenges for their minds and open season for their imaginations!
The set comes equipped with 30 coding cards and ten activity cards, all double sided. Also included is a programmable robot mouse by the name of Colby, who lights up and makes sounds to add to the fun (another programmable robot mouse, Jack, can be added to the set and is sold separately). Colby is able to move at two different speeds, and has buttons that match the coding cards which make for simple programming.
The Code and Go Robot Mouse Activity Set requires the children to build a maze according to instructions in the Activity Guide which is also included with the set. There are 16 maze grids that, when put together, create a maze board of 20” x 20”. Twenty-two walls help to finish the maze along with three separate tunnels for Colby to run through. The maze can be created so that Colby can go in different directions each time the children play. His reward is a wedge of cheese (plastic, of course!) that waits for him at the end of the maze.
The Learning Resources Code and Go Robot Mouse Activity Set teaches children not only about coding, but helps them to learn about problem solving as well, while having a whole lot of fun! The Activity Guide provides them with an excellent introduction to the concept of coding. Along with coding concepts come the added benefits of math and science also incorporated into this toy. While playing, children are soaking in a wide variety of educational information which enables them to feel an extreme sense of accomplishment when Colby finishes the maze and finds his wedge of cheese. Upon his victory, a new maze can be created, the mouse reprogrammed, we are off on another new adventure! Nothing is as exciting as watching Colby run through his maze, along the path the children have created for him, chattering as he goes, and coming to the end to receive his reward.
This is a wonderful, educationally challenging, imaginative toy.
