Natural Baby Furniture

Today I am not going to write a review or do a giveaway contest. I will do something a bit different. I am going to talk about natural baby furniture and the importance of furnishing your nursery with them and how these will impact both you and your baby’s overall health and well being.

During the first few years of nursery you will collect tons of stuff (both from you and your baby) that you’ll need place to store them. Without realizing how many stuffs I bought over the years while baby sitting, I just kept on buying more and more until now my daughter’s room and the living room are full of toys and it is just out of control. It is hard to have guest over for dinner because it is just a pure chaos. My husband and I wanted to take control of this situation so we started shopping for storage furniture and other furnishing to make our home more appealing again. We found that the ideal natural furniture is not always easy to find. They are either in bad design or is not comfortable at all. With the knowledge I gained from talking to so many furniture experts, I really want to share with you this experience and knowledge so that you can be alert and make a wise purchase when it comes to buying furniture for your home.

Ok, when you are buying a furniture for storage purposes you really need to go for all the storage you think you’ll need and more. If you are buying only for what you have now, you will end up running out of space pretty soon. Especially when you see that stuffed toys on the shelf that is just too cute for you to not get for your precious baby. One purchase after another, you will quickly head back to the spacing chaos again. So plan ahead and buy furniture with more space now. One essential point that you need to bear in mind is you need to get something that you be able to put everything away. If not, the unrestrained clutter will not only frazzling for the nerves, it is bad for your baby’s health. A disorganized room is nearly impossible to keep clean. Sooner than you think, your baby will be crawling after dust bunnies on the floor.

Also, in term of rockers, gliders, and adult chairs that reside in your baby’s room, personal preference should be the guiding force. Try out several options at your local consignment store before swiping that credit card of yours. The wood should be in good repair and formaldehyde free. The older the piece of furniture the more you need to concerned about durability, and the newer the item, the more your should focus on toxicity level. Try to pick furniture that not only serves needs now, (ie, breast-feeding, rocking baby to sleep, resting, reading and etc), but that will also serve your future needs (ie, moves to another room or home, a place for your child to read).

Now the most important thing in selecting a chair is to ensure that the piece of furniture will fit your body comfortably. If your are not comfortable, you will not use it. Also, the pillows you use to accessorize this item can be colored to fit many different rooms and may even be made from remnants of coordinating curtains, beddings, or other fabrics. Using fabric scraps not only saves money and the environment, it offers the added benefit of enabling you to wash the fabric prior to sewing.

I guess I’ll stop here and next time, I will talk about the difference between the conventional furniture and the natural furniture.

Is Organic Baby Food Better for Babies?

When it comes to babies, most people worry about what is put into their tiny digestive systems. We’re careful about when they begin eating solid foods, when they can have cereal, then fruits and vegetables and when they can move from formula or breast milk to dairy foods. In the search to find the healthiest options for their babies, many parents are turning to organic baby foods for their infants, to eliminate the ingestion of pesticides.

While pesticides can be harmful to everyone, the concern for babies is much greater due to their size and their developing immune and digestive systems. Babies’ brains are still developing and so is their ability to rid the body of toxins. Because their diets are primarily fruits and vegetables while they are young, the effects of pesticides used in growing the produce are of particular concern.

Organic baby food is growing in popularity, despite the fact that it costs more than traditional baby food. When a baby food is labeled “organic”, it means there were no pesticides or herbicides used in the production of the baby food- from the ground to the grocery shelf, the product is free from any chemical additives. Organically grown meats mean the animals are fed an organic diet and haven’t been given growth hormones or other chemicals or antibiotics.

One of the least expensive ways to make sure you know exactly what your infant is eating is to make your own baby food. Whether you grow your own fruits and vegetables or buy organic whole foods in the store, you can make your own baby food with a blender and freeze it in portions. An ice cube tray works great as a portion maker- each cube is approximately one ounce of food.

As more and more parents choose organic baby food for their little ones, the entire organic industry is supported, which will eventually lead to lower prices, allowing organic foods to be competitively priced. In the meantime, it still makes sense to support organically grown foods. Eliminating pesticides in the fields means eliminating pesticides in the soil, leading to a cleaner, safer environment overall.

When it comes to safely feeding babies, it seems clear that organic baby foods are a positive healthy choice. There are several brands of organic baby food available on the market, with a variety of flavor choices so your little one can have the variety they crave and the safety you desire.

Organic and Your Baby – Do They Go Together?

If you’ve thought about going organic, what better time than when a new baby is coming? We’ve heard of organic baby foods, but are there other ways you can use organic products and materials when getting ready for a new baby?

When you are preparing your home for a new baby, you naturally want everything to be as safe and as comfortable as it can be. From the food you feed your infant to the clothes they wear, you want to be certain nothing can harm them. One way you can be sure your baby is kept comfortable and safe from harmful chemicals is to go green- use as many organic products as you can. By choosing organic materials and products, you are cutting down on the multitude of chemicals your baby is exposed to. This is especially important with infants, as their immune systems are still developing and they are far more sensitive to chemicals, germs and additives.

One way you can use organic products for your infant is by choosing clothing made from organic materials. Organically grown cotton, for example, is much healthier than traditionally grown cotton. Five of the nine pesticides used in growing and manufacturing cotton are known to be cancer-causing chemicals. When you purchase clothing from organically-grown cotton, you eliminate this risk.

Part of the problem comes from the fact that many of the pesticides and other chemicals used when growing and manufacturing cotton are petroleum based chemicals. They remain in the material even after washing, so your child’s skin is continually exposed to the toxins. Some figures estimate that over 800 million pounds of pesticides are used to produce traditional cotton in the US every year! While the amount of exposure in clothing may be limited, there are no conclusive reports on the long-term effects of that exposure. More and more families are deciding that any risk to their babies’ health is too much risk.

Organically grown cotton contains no pesticides or other chemicals that can affect either your skin or the environment. Instead, farmers use natural enemies of the insects that feed on cotton to keep the crop pest free. They also plant trap crops to attract the destructive insects and prevent them from invading the cotton crop. Any item that is labeled organic cotton has been certified by a third-party to guarantee it meets quality standards.

As you choose clothing and other materials for your new baby, look for items labeled as organically grown cotton. You’ll know you are providing the safest, cleanest clothing for your new baby. After all, your little one deserves the very best.

The Stars for a Wish fundraiser has a minimum goal of $25,000, which will help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. One-hundred percent of the funds raised through the auction will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
